Santa Bárbara de Neixe is a parish (freguesia) in the municipality (concelho) of Faro, situated only a few kilometres north of the A22 motorway midway between Faro and Loulé.
From the surrounding hills you have great views to the Barrocal plain between Faro and Olhão, the Ria Formosa and the Atlantic Ocean. Because of its excellent and advantageous location plus the first rate traffic connections the area is a very popular place for foreign residents to live.
The parish church in the centre of the village, built in the 15th Century, has Manueline features, a variation of the late Gothic architecture found only in Portugal.
The Algarve-Stadium (Estadio do Algarve) built for the UEFA European football championship in 2006 is close by within view. It is the venue of the annual Algarve-Cup, the most important international female football tournament, besides the World and European championship.
